What character has the most to learn during the course of this novel? Why?.

I think I would have liked it better if I'd read it as a printed book. I will say it wasn't the best Jodi Picoult book I've ever read but not the worst either. The story itself was pretty good, and it did keep my interest enough to make me put up with the narration. I really wish there had just been one narrator for the whole book. I ended up preferring Christina Moore's voice for Katie, accentless, but at least she sounded like a real person. Suzanne Toren's voice for Katie sounded ridiculous and not even real, more like a voice someone would do for a puppet, although she did try to do an Amish accent. The most marked difference in voices was for one of the most important characters in the book, Katie. Just when you might get used to one narrator's voices for the characters, a new chapter would come along and go back to the other narrator. The fact there are two different narrators is very distracting as well because their voices for characters were so different that it was confusing and hard to get used to.

especially when it was Suzanne Toren's turn to read, her voice was really jarring. Even so, it was really hard to listen to the prosecutor during the courtroom scenes because, like another reviewer said, he ends up sounding sleazy or angry. The only time the harshness remotely suits the characters it is for the prosecutor and the detective, two characters who are not in as many chapters as everyone else. The narrators' harsh voices do not suit the majority of the characters, especially those of the Amish. I had a hard time persevering to the end of this because of the narration, the only reason I toughed it out was because I wanted to know what happened.
